How to Wear Colored Skinny Jeans

Colored denim is hawt for this summer, but some people get overwhelmed with how to style them. I got you covered. Be inspired.

As you can see there are many ways to rock this trend. I plan on treating myself to some pastel colored skinnies for my birthday. Summer is ALL about color, so add some fun to your closet. Later :)

Beautiful Lipsticks for the Summer: Covergirl Edition

Bonjour ladies! So the weather is warm and summer is right around the corner. Why be predictable and stick to clear lipgloss when you can step out in BOLD lipstick? I know some girls are a little apprehensive about lipstick, especially my women of color; but no worries. I have provided some beautiful colors that would flatter any skin tone. Take a look.

*Top to bottom* DAZZLE, SPELLBOUND, VERVE, DARLING

MY REVIEW
  • I have tried many lipsticks and Covergirl is my favorite because they are so affordable, $7 and they feel very nourishing.
  • The quality is wonderfullll, just look at those swatches!
  • Don't be afraid of the high pigmentation in these colors, when paired with the right eye makeup you won't look clownish.
  • My favorite is Spellbound and I have provided a picture below.
I am a big fan of pairing bold lips with a classic cat eye. You guys should totally try these colors and they had plenty more beautiful shades as well. Let me know how they work out. <3

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

So this weekend was a big party at my college and I just had a good time getting ready with my girlies before we headed out. Enjoy the pics :)

Don't worry it is just Hawaiian Punch! Isn't my Marilyn Monroe cup adorable? We had a good time and best of all we all looked like divas! Btw, we don't have heels on because they wanted me to feel better about being the midget of the group. LOL.

Celeb Look of the Week: Rihanna

Rihanna went to the TIME 100 GALA this week and here are some pictures from the red carpet... Gorgeous. Exquisite. What more could you expect from her? This dress is so beautiful, the color is perfect for the summer and I love the mix of the dark makeup and shoes. As you can see she is also working the high-low hem trend. I even like the shaved part of her hairstyle and I usually don’t like that trend. Her skin is radiant in this gown. Two thumbs up for Ri-Ri.

How to Extend the Life of Your Hair Extensions

I get asked all the time about my hair extensions, because I am known for making them last a long time. Weave is expensive so I want to help all of my ladies out there with some tips on how to get the most bang for your buck.

*In the picture above, the day before I deep conditioned and my extensions were as good as new. I have had them for 2 months now.

Step 1: The Hair
It is very important when wearing hair extensions to get good quality hair. This step alone can increase your style for up to 2 months. I typically stick with Remy hair but brands like Duvessa and Bobbi Boss are great too. DO NOT buy $15 hair and expect it to last 2 months !!! You will stretch your dollar more if you invest in bags starting at $30 and up.

Step 2: The Products
When you first get your extensions it is best not to put anything on them. I'm serious. If it is good quality hair it will not need anything for the first month but for you to wrap it up at night. Once your weave starts to get a little older you will probably notice a little shedding or tangling. Here are some products that will help with day to day styling after the first month:

MIZANI D'TANGLE MOISTURIZING LEAVE-IN MILK $15
This stuff is amazing! I have used it for a long time and I am in love it. You can use it while your hair is dry or damp (you get the best results when used damp though) and i just make your hair soft and more manageable. Best of all it is not a greasy product. NOBODY likes greasy weave.

KERA CARE ESSENTIAL OILS FOR THE HAIR $18
When I first started using this product I didn't like it, but then I realized it was because I was using wayyy too much at one time. This serum works wonders for weave (or even your natural hair) because it gives your hair that shine without weighing it down. But you only need about 2 drops of this product, anymore than that your hair will look greasy.
*I only use this product on my hair once every other week.

OLIVE OIL REPLENISHING PAK $2
This stuff is soooooo good and probably the most important product of them all. I deep condition my hair every 2 weeks. After shampooing my hair (the brand is not important) I put the conditioner ONLY on the middle to ends of my hair. You do not want to deep condition the top because this causes the braids to loosen more quickly. After that I put on a shower cap and let it sit for about an hour. The key as well is the way you wash it out. I wash the conditioner out going from the middle to end. I don't scrunch it or rustle it. Just go in a smooth motion from middle to end until all of the conditioner is out. You can also apply the MIZANI D'TANGLE after this step.

Step 3: Maintenance
Even with the best sew ins, your hair will grow and the braids will eventually get loose. When this happens to me, usually around the second month I go to my stylist and let her tighten up a few tracks. It is pretty inexpensive and well worth the extra month or two you get out of the style.

I hope you all found this post helpful! I am a weave-aholic so if you have any other questions just leave me comments. Toodles.

Makeup Essentials for Beginners

Hey babes! So since I have started this blog, makeup has been the most requested topic from my friends. I understand that some of you lovely ladies might be just testing out the water in Makeup Land; and many stores like Sephora and Ulta can be intimidating (and expensive) for a newbie. Have no fear, because Ashley is here! I have compiled a list for you of items to get you started that won’t break the bank. Let’s gooooo.

e.l.f. BRUSH SET $30
As I have stated before, the application is VITAL! And just because you are a novice at makeup doesn't mean you can skimp on important steps. Throw those crappy sponge applicators away! Everything you need to achieve a picture perfect look is in this kit. I own many e.l.f. brushes and they are some of my favorite ones!

LOREAL FACE PRIMER $10
Face primer is essential in creating a matte look with your makeup. It also hydrates your skin without clogging your pores like most lotions. They make many drugstore primers, but this one is the most mentioned. It can be purchased at any drugstore.

PHYSICIAN'S FORMULA MINERAL POWDER $14
This powder is comparable to many high end brands. The finish is very matte and best of all it comes with a mini Kabuki.

COVERGIRL TRUBLEND $9
This foundation is creamy and smooth, and the price is phenomenal.

MILANI CONCEALER $5
I am a BIG fan of Milani products and this concealer does not disappoint.

MILANI BAKED BLUSH $9
Milani wins again! You will see many makeup gurus rave about these baked blushes. These blushes are so pigmented and just wonderful.

LOREAL HIP EYESHADOW DUOS $9
These eyeshadows are the bomb.com. Usually drugstore eyeshadows aren't very pigmented to me but these are sooooo luxxeee. TRY THEM, TRY THEM.

WET N WILD GEL EYELINER $4
This is the best eyeliner HANDS DOWN! I use it all of the time. No need to spend $20 on eyeliner because this stuff does the trick.

MAYBELLINE FALSIES MASCARA $7
This mascara does it all! It adds volume, it curls and lengthens.

COVERGIRL LIPSTICK $9
These are the only lipsticks I buy because they are affordable and very nourishing.

REVLON COLORBURST LIPGLOSS $9
Again, a favorite of mine! I also love NYX lipgloss but for a drugstore brand this stuff is LEGIT!

Ladies now you are ready to get DOLLED up! And you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to do it. Enjoy.

Style Star Throwback: Jackie O

Jackie O was the epitome of elegance and sophistication, and even though she is gone her style lives on. Here are some of my favorite looks.

I hope this has given you all some ideas. I have seen nautical prints popping up everywhere from Forever21 to Marshalls. Try it. I’m sure you will love to add a bit of sailor girl flair to your wardrobe.

Makeup Brushes for Every Budget

Any true lover of makeup knows that as important as the product is, the application is vital. Makeup Brushes really do make a difference in the way your overall look turns out. Many people think they have to spend a fortune on brushes but there are many quality products out there for every budget.

SHANY COSMETIC BRUSHES $25

I ordered this set for myself from Amazon.com and I LOVE it. The brushes are so soft and best of all it comes with a large Kabuki brush. For $25 this set gets the job done and then some.

SONIA KASHUK COSMETIC BRUSHES $14.99-$20.99

These brushes can be purchased from Target in a set or for her more quality brushes, individually. They are totally worth the price! I own the set above and I use her brushes mainly for applying eyeshadow. And look at that case! You could so use it as a clutch.

SIGMA COSMETIC BRUSHES $100

If you are a fan of watching makeup videos on YouTube, you know that almost all of the gurus own a Sigma set. I have not purchased my own yet but it is on my wish list! They are supposed to be the next best thing compared to MAC brushes so they must be something special!?

I hope you all enjoyed this post. I absolutely LOVE brushes; I'm always looking for new brands to try. Let me know what your favorite brushes are! Later dolls.
